» santa claus
By Christine Heeley | Published 12/8/2004 | Gamelea Students Yr 1 | Unrated
Over the centuries, customs from different parts of the Northern Hemisphere thus came together and created the whole world's Santa Claus - the ageless, timeless, deathless white-bearded man who gives out gifts on Christmas and always returns to Korvatunturi in Finnish Lapland.Since the 1950s, Santa has happily sojourned at Napapiiri, near Rovaniemi, at times other than Christmas, to meet children and the young at heart. By 1985 his visits to Napapiiri had become so regular that he established his own Santa Claus Office there. He comes there every day of the year to hear what children want for Christmas and to talk with children who have arrived from around the world. Santa Claus Village is also the location of Santa's main Post Office, which receives children's letters from the four corners of the world.

» Tumble the kitten.
By Christine Heeley | Published 11/24/2004 | Gamelea Students Yr 1 | Unrated
tumble an adorable tabby was a member of our family from the time she was born, she was born into smokeys first (and only) litter of kittens. Tumble almost didnt live longer than a few days we noticed she wasn't gettng much feeding time with mom the way the other little fur balls were when we went to move her closer to smokey another kitten yelped rather loudly after careful examination of the situation (and strategic relocation of the surrounding kittens) we discovered tumble was attached to another kittens umbilical cord! the cord was tied in a tight knot around one of  the back paws and the paw looked absoloutely horrible very swollen and red it was clear why she wasnt  making it to feed with mom. Naturally these types of discoveries are always made at 1 a.m, when it is impossible to get a vet it was clear we had to remove the cord from the paw right there and then. fortunately we were able to cut the cord away without incident and after a day or so (and consultaion with the vet) the paw looked much better. from that point on we made sure she was able to get nice and close to moms belly to feed.
