Masson Mills – 3rd February 2005
We visited the Masson Mill which is a working Textile museum and shopping centre. There is lots of room to park, and there are lifts available, it costs £1.40 to park for two hours. The shops are spread over four floors with the museum on the bottom floor. We paid £2 each to look around, Bob the guide, showed Emma the map and how to get around. There were lots of old machines from all over
We looked around the shops there is lots of choice, we stopped to look at shoes and laughed at some very odd furry boots. They also had coloured wellies which Jean thought felt funny. One part of the shop is called Masson Larder this stocks all sorts of lovely food and drink, every thing looked mouth wateringly good.
The next shop was designer clothes, Jenny went mad buying things. Karl and Emma both liked the jewellery best but did not have enough money to get some, Jean liked some trousers with flowers on them. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
We went for a coffee and the staff from the design shop gave us tickets for buy one get one free coffee. The coffee was nice and we sat by the window so we could watch the river. We decide that the food was a little expensive even though it looked very good.
The toilets were very big and clean we all thought the signs could have been easier to read but there was access for all disabled visitors.
Next we looked at the home- ware department where there were some beautiful things. Emma and Karl saw a gorgeous hand crafted wooden DVD stand & Jean liked the tables.
We decided to go to Matlock Bath for our lunch as this is only a 2 minute drive from Masson Mill. It was lovely walking by river in the sun. We went into a shop that sold everything. Both Emma and Karl brought a football key ring.
We went to the pub for lunch called the Fish Pond this just down the road from Masson Mill with a big car park opposite. The menu had lots of choice but we settled for bar snacks and Karl and Jean had cheese burger and chips. The burgers were very big and came with a lovely salad. We thought these were excellent value at £3.95 Jenny had a chicken & brown wrap which was also tasted great and was good value.
We had look around Malock Bath but a lot of the shops were closed due to being out of season. We know they open at the weekend.
We all enjoyed Masson Mill and the Fishpond’s pub we would definitely visit again.
